Residents Speak

The following are some comments about our program made by residents of the shelter. Names and other identifying information has been omitted to protect confidentiality.

"Staying at Womencare helped me to feel safe, wanted, understood, supported, and gave me a sense of family at a time that was very hard for me. Womencare helped me get the DSHS process started, find medical help, helped me get urgent care, find perscription resources and so much more. I cannot think of one way in which Womencare did not meet my needs. Everyone was most AWESOME. I feel like I had a family here."

"The support I recieved was wonderful. Everyone presented many options but never pushed them on me; the decision was always mine. Staying at Womencare helped me believe that there are really great people out in the world. I felt safe."

"Staying at Womencare gave me a safe place to think and rest without worry. My son and I felt a sense of calm we hadn't had in a long time."

"The advocates were very helpful and gave me information relevant to my situation. I had time to plan without worrying about my safety, a place to stay, food, etc."

The following letter was translated from spanish
"First I would like to thank you very much for helping my son and I. I am greatful to have recieved the help of all of you who work here. You were very good with me and especially with my son. Thank you very much! I will never forget arriving here, very nervous and frightened. But here I felt very safe and when I left, my nerves and fears were calmed."

"I never went one day without 100% of my needs being met. I am very impressed with the advocates here. I have been able to reflect on domestic violence in my lifetime, not just now. I feel I am finally doing my life for me."

"Staying at Womencare gave me time to reflect on my situation and prepare for my next step. I really appreciate the sincerity and love the advocates showed to me and my children."

"When I first fame to the shelter, I felt low and helpless. After staying here I found all the support... and now I really feel like I can handle anything ahead."

"For the first time I felt welcome and at home. I will really miss the comfort and closeness of the shelter."

"The entire staff was very supportive. I felt so comfortable [at the shelter] and so did my daughter. Here I was happy."
