Below are some signs that you may be in an abusive relationship
Your feelings and behaviors:
- Do you feel afraid of the person or are you afraid that certain topics of conversation will anger the person?
- Do you feel like nothing you do for the person is right?
- Do you feel isolated?
- Do you feel like you deserve to be mistreated or hurt?
- Do you make excuses for the person’s violence?
- Do you sometimes wonder if you’re the one who’s crazy?
- Do you get a sense of fear when the person becomes angry with you?
- Do you feel emotionally numb or helpless?
- Does not making the person angry become an important part of your daily routine?
The abusive person‘s behavior:
- Does the person have an unpredictable or bad temper?
- Does the person humiliate you or degrade you?
- Does the partner treat you so badly you’re embarrassed to be around friends or family?
- Does the person see you as property or a sex object, rather than as a person?
- Does the person act excessively jealous and possessive?
- Does the person lose his or her temper frequently and more easily then seems necessary?
- Does the person control where you go, what you do or keep you from seeing your friends or family?
- Does the person threaten suicide? Have you ever stopped the person from trying?
- Does the person make excuses for their violence?
- Does the person show disinterest or threatened by your personal desires or goals?
- Does the person tear down your self esteem or erode your self confidence?
- Does the person often blame the violence on your action?
