→ Advocacy Based counseling

 

Our Legal Advocate assists domestic violence victims/survivors seeking legal advocacy services by appointment at our administrative office; via our twenty four hour crisis line and those currently staying at our confidential shelter. With the victims’ permission, legal advocates will advocate on the victims behalf at court hearings and cps hearings. Legal advocates work to educate victims about the legal system and to assist them to explore what options are available. Legal Advocates also work to ensure that victim's rights are respected and provide court and meeting accompaniment.

Our Former Resident Advocate provides on-going support to clients that have stayed at our shelter. She also provides a setting for women to access our weekly empowerment based support groups and topic based workshops to assist women on their long term recovery from domestic violence. Resources such as food bags, bedding, clothing vouchers and referrals to community agencies are also provided. Our Women’s Support Advocate is located at our confidential shelter providing support, domestic violence education and safety planning. Advocates listen in a non-judgmental way and always respects a person's decisions. They provide one on one meetings as often as needed, facilitates bi-weekly support groups and makes referrals to community resources. Womencare Shelter facilitates “A Window Between Worlds”;  a weekly empowerment based art workshop which is designed to help battered women and children process their feelings through  art work.

Our Children's Support Advocate is located at our confidential shelter providing children with support and safety planning, parents with parent support meetings and also facilitates "A Window Between Worlds"; an empowerment based art workshop for children while mom's are in support group.

Our Housing First Advocates provides direct case management services to individuals and families that are in emergency shelter to access housing and achieve housing stability. This position serves as a link between families, community resources and service providers and works closely with the Whatcom Homeless Service Center. She is experienced in providing case management to individuals and families seeking housing.
